Concept & Background

While the film may lack a clear storyline, it offers a nuanced discussion on power dynamics and gender roles within the confined space of the car, set against the backdrop of a remote location. This short film is a free interpretation by filmmaker Jason Iskandar of Nirvana’s song with the same title. As Jason’s first fiction film, it won Best Short Film at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, showcasing his sensitivity to power dynamics that feature prominently in his later works.

Cinema Poetica critics praised the film, noting its deft handling of gender biases through simple yet impactful scenes. They highlighted how Jason Iskandar’s “Territorial Pissings” brings to light the subtleties of power dynamics and gender roles, creating a compelling narrative that resonates deeply with viewers.
